Final scene in the Aeolus chapter of James Joyce's Ulysses. Stephen Dedalus describes his "Parable of the Plums" to Professor McHugh while they regard Nelson's Piller in Dublin. In the parable, two old women (possibly the Fates) spit down plum pits which turn into eyes and eggs and the Greek alphabet, bestowing on Dedalus the gift of eventually writing a modern epic.
